Bradford White has recently introduced a new and improved heat trap design for residential gas and electric water heaters. The newly designed heat traps are now factory installed on all residential gas and electric models with 3/4" NPT top inlet and outlet water connections. These new style heat traps can also be purchased as service parts for installation on older non-heat trap style dip tube and anode rod assemblies.
The new heat trap design incorporates a small disc that greatly reduces heat loss through the cold-water inlet and hot-water outlet. The improved design offers the advantage of easy installation when not factory-installed – just push the heat trap into the top of the fitting. The new heat trap also creates a true dielectric connection on the top water inlet and outlet fittings and meets all code regulations that require traps. The greatest advantage is that noise is virtually eliminated when compared to the rattling sound often associated with the old ball-type style heat trap.
