Interim Through the Wall Water Heaters

As most of the industry is aware, implementation of Phase II of the Flammable Vapor Ignition Resistance (FVIR) standard was scheduled to become effective January 1, 2006. However, CSA International suspended implementation pending investigation of concerns about some of the technology that would have been incorporated in the implementation of Phase II.

Bradford White has developed a power vented “Interim” water heater as announced in the 2006 Bradford White Wholesale Price Schedule. As was explained in the price schedule, the new TTW heaters will become available when existing inventory of the current TTW heaters is depleted. The Interim version of the TTW units will be manufactured at our Middleville, MI facility and subjected to the same stringent quality control and testing that has made our existing TTW units the standard that other manufacturers build against.

Features

The Interim TTW units will feature some of the improvements that will be incorporated in the FVIR version of the TTW units. Specifically, the Interim TTW units will have a new blower and an electronic gas control valve. This newer blower motor will be stronger and quieter than the existing product. This will allow greater vent lengths and better installation flexibility. Equivalent vent lengths will be increased to as far as 120 feet. (Please refer to the included spec sheets for details.) The connection between the wiring harness and the blower motor has also been upgraded to provide greater security for the fittings.

The electronic gas control valve features easy-to-use controls and incorporates an LED display that will aid installers with start-up and diagnostics. The newer thermostat will provide far more accurate temperature settings and will allow adjustment without having to remove a cover. The Interim TTW units will also have a proven spark to pilot ignition system for reliable firing.

Spec Sheets and Pricing

The Interim TTW heaters are manufactured according to ANSI standards (ANSI Z21.10.1) and certified by CSA International. The attached spec sheets (1000-B-0206 and 1001-B-0206) detail the standard features of the units and the available options. These specs can also be found here.

The Interim TTW units are not Flammable Vapor Ignition Resistant and will be provided until the FVIR Phase II date is implemented by CSA. The Interim TTW heaters will be available shortly, and, as noted in the 2006 price book, will carry the same price as the existing TTW models.
