Bradford White Corporation has released conversion kits for our light duty commercial electric water heaters.  These kits allow conversion of the water heaters from the standard, stock electrical configuration to a different allowable configuration of voltage and/or wattage.

The new kits are similar to the conversion kits available for the medium duty commercial water heaters (E32/E31), reference PB 1008.  The existing medium duty kits provide inputs from 6 kW up to 18 kW.  Both the light duty and the medium duty kits can be used to change the heater’s input without needing a rework by a UL Certified bench. 

With the introduction of the light duty conversion kits, your customers will have easy access to water heaters with inputs from 1500 watts up to 12 kW (at 277v, 380v, 415v and 480v)

The kits will be effective for the following water heaters only:

Upright Models:  LD-30R, LD-40S, LD-50S, LD-65R. LD-80R, LD-120R

Lowboy Models:  LD-20L, LD-30L, LD-40L, LD-50L

Utility Models:  LD-6U, LD-12UT, LD-20U, LD-30U

Wall Hung Models: LD-WH6U, LD-WH12U, LD-WH20L, LD-WH30L

Information for phase conversions (if applicable) is already included in the water heater’s Installation and Operating manual as well as on the water heater’s instruction labeling.  Instructions for converting between simultaneous and non-simultaneous operation are also included in the Installation and Operating manual.

Each kit will include two replacement elements, two gaskets, a rating plate overlay, and one set of instructions (exceptions apply, see table).  For water heaters with only one element, please retain the extra element and gasket as a service part.  The following page has the corresponding kits for the allowable configurations. 

As with any electrical conversion, it is necessary to follow the instructions and to make certain that the new label is placed properly on the rating plate.  When converting the water heater, it is important to ensure that the new label does not cover the model number or serial number.

* Kits 265-46409-02, -03, -04, -46, -47, and -48 contain only one element.  These kits cannot be wired as simultaneous.  These are non-simultaneous kits only.
