Insufficient Hot Water / Draw Off Test Procedure (#111-2)

Draw-Off Test
(For Insufficient Hot Water Complaint)

Test to be conducted in the following manner:

  1. Hot water is turned on until the burner fires.
  2. Hot water is then shut off, and the water heater is allowed to heat up to temperature.
  3. Once the burner has shut off. A (3 or 5) gallon bucket and a thermometer are used to conduct the test. At a stationary sink or bath tub, begin to draw hot water out of the faucet, measuring and recording the temperature and number of (3 or 5) gallon buckets of hot water drawn.

A storage type water heater is designed to deliver a minimum of 70% of its stored volume before there’s more than a 30º drop in temperature.
