What is The BAAQMD?

The BAAQMD stands for the Bay Area Air Quality Management District. This is an air pollution control agency for all of the District's seven counties-Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara and Napa. Two other portions of southwestern Solano and southern Sonoma are also in this area.

BAAQMD and Water Heaters

As part of their attempt to limit the amount of NOx emissions in their area, the BAAQMD has amended Regulation 9 (Inorganic Gaseous Pollutants), Rule 6 (Nitrogen Oxides Emissions From Natural Gas-Fired Boilers and Water Heaters). This rule seeks to control the amount of Nitrogen Oxides (NOx) emitted by Natural Gas-Fired Water Heaters and Boilers. In order to be sold in the BAAQMD, the NOx generated by Water Heaters (less than or equal to 75,000 BTU/hr.) cannot be greater than 10 nanograms per joule (ng/J) of useful heat output.

Bradford White Corporation has been able to meet this challenge by developing a series of advanced water heaters that emit 10 ng/J or less NOx. These water heaters are known as the Eco-Defender Ultra Low NOx Series Water heaters. For more info about these models, please refer to the Specification Sheets.
